OMG, that first photo is STUNNING. So jealous you were there. Perhaps I shouldn’t say that????
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks so much, mrscarmichael. Seeing the Himalayas at sunrise and sunset was quite a treat. Nepal was a little tough, but I still loved it. 🙂

fantastic photos! thanks for the visual break, as i’ve been painting ‘floor tiles’ – boring earth colors!
catbirdinoman said:
I love the earth colors of floor tiles, but I guess it’s good to get a visual break from time to time. Thanks so much, Lisa. 🙂

What a fabulous collection of photos. I think the ones of the lanterns in Muscat, the Annapurna range and the light in the cafe in India are my favourites, but it was hard to choose!
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks so much, Elaine. I love the lanterns in Oman too. And the Annapurna range at sunrise was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. 🙂

I like your Omani lanterns best, Cath (apart from the stunning lead photo, of course) Don’t suppose you’ll miss it but it’s been interesting? 🙂
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks so much, Jo. Of course, I’ll miss Oman and its fascinating traditional culture. It’s just my job I won’t miss. It has certainly been interesting, and quite an adventure. 🙂

It’s hard to choose a favourite, these are all fab but maybe Udaipur 🙂
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks, Gilly. It’s always fun doing these challenges, isn’t it? 🙂

I love all of these photos and couldn’t possibly choose a favourite. You could double up on this post and use it for the weekly photo challenge of culture as well. That chandelier in the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is a sight to behold isn’t it.
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks, Carol. Yes, I think I could double up and use this for the culture challenge. This time, I used one of my other blogs, my photography blog, to do the culture challenge, because I like the size of the photos in that theme. Here it is: http://catbirdphotography.wordpress.com/2013/04/27/weekly-photo-challenge-culture/

These photos just point out how well traveled you are and their is “light” in every corner of the world. What is special about these are the stories behind them. I like the quotes.
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks so much, Lynne! 🙂

Great photos. The first one is truly stunning.

Brilliant selection of photos for the week’s travel theme. Looking at the impressive selection of lanterns I can tell how well traveled you are 😀
That first photo? No words can describe the beauty of the Himalayas
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks so much, Rosie. Yes, the Himalayas are magnificent. I want to go back some day and do a long trek, much like I want to do the Camino. 🙂
Carol said:
I would love to have one of those turkish lanterns in my home, although I don’t know where I’d put it. So perhaps one of the Omani lanterns for my front deck instead. All of your photographs of light – that thing so essential to our well-being – are beautiful!
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks Carol. I want all those lanterns too. I have collected some in my travels and I hope to set them up in my house, wherever that ends up being. 🙂
My Life Afterglow said:

Hey, just found you again thru Kathryn. Those are some spectacular lanterns. I don’t have any so spectacular but I do have a perforated star lantern from Mexico. You know the ones? Well this one is quite large, about two feet from point to point, (well for this kind of star quite large). 🙂 It’s my happiness light! 🙂 It’s in the library/TV room and has strings of colourful Xmas light in it. I’m so glad I found your site again. I’ll favorite it so I don’t lose you. Have a lovely day. 🙂
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks for “finding me” again, Veronica! I know exactly what kind of lantern you’re talking about. I want one of those, for sure. I can see why it would be your happiness light. I hope you’ll post a picture of it sometime. 🙂

Lovely and shiny – until the power company decides to cut you off for whatever reason…insipid gibbons! sorry, I shouldn’t insult monkeys like that 🙂
catbirdinoman said:
Haha, well, Marco, most of these lights don’t need electricity, especially the lanterns with candles…. So the monkeys can cut off electricity if they like. 🙂
Marco said:
never trust a monkey – they’ll always find some way to screw you over

hard to say … we really loved laos when we were there in 1995 … it was just opening up to the west … i would like to return there and to vietnam 🙂
catbirdinoman said:
I’d love to return to Vietnam myself; I didn’t have nearly long enough there. I never made it to Laos, but I’ve heard it’s fabulous. I hope, someday. 🙂

Gorgeous collection of light photos, Cathy. I love them all, but especially that lantern at La Mer. I’m getting so behind with the challenges and comments, but am pedalling as fast as I can. 😀
catbirdinoman said:
Thanks so much, once again, Sylvia. You really are catching up today. It seems I am always behind! Every time I think of a system to keep up, I get behind again immediately. I think it really is impossible for me to work full time, write my blog, travel and take pictures and then follow all the blogs I want to follow. There simply are not enough hours in the day!! 🙂
adinparadise said:
You’re so right, Cathy. We blogging travellers need at least 36 hours in a day. I have so many blogs in my head, and they’re not all to do with travel pics either.
catbirdinoman said:
Well, eventually I hope you’ll find time to write them so we can see what’s in your head! I’m in the same boat. I only wish I didn’t have to spend time at work. I could write my blogs full time!! 🙂
adinparadise said:
😆 It’s amazing what gets in the way of blogging, isn’t it?
