Monday, December 10: Here are Cee’s Life Questions for this week.
If you were to move and your home came fully furnished with everything you ever wanted, list at least three things from your old house you wish to retain?
My apple green damask couch, my papyrus scrolls and black & white photos of Egypt from the early 1900s (I see these as a collection), and my multi-disc CD player. That way I could recline on my couch, dream of Egypt and other faraway places, and listen to an eclectic array of tunes.
Are you mostly a clean or messy person?
I’m definitely a clean & neat and tidy person! I can’t stand disarray or squalor. I have to make my bed each morning and have everything in order before I leave my house. All my belongings are classified and arranged into some system. For instance, my huge collection of books are arranged by type: travel books on one bookshelf arranged by author, poetry on one bookshelf, short stories, novels, all arranged by author. My clothes are the same. Shirts sorted by color, and then from sleeveless to short-sleeved to long-sleeved, sweaters arranged by color in a different spot, etc.
Some might call me just a tad bit compulsive! 🙂
What is the most enjoyable team or club you have belonged to and what was it that made it so?
Well, I’m not much of team or club person in general, but I have to say the group I most enjoyed in my life was the Sigma Phi Lambda (SPL) sorority I belonged to in high school. Yes, high school. At college, I never belonged to a sorority.
This sorority was full of fun-loving girls from York High School in Yorktown, Virginia. We had to go through a week-long initiation where we had to wear our clothes in some weird way each day: backwards, mismatched, etc. Then we had a Hell Night initiation where the members plastered the new initiates’ hair with a horrible concoction of oils, food items, and horse manure! Fun times. 🙂
Our main purpose in life was to raise money all year for a week at Virginia Beach in the summer. During those beach weeks, we had total freedom from our parents. We spent nights driving up and down Atlantic Avenue mooning people (how lovely!) and then later, streaking on the beach. We’d spend our days lathered in coconut oil on the beach, listening to rock and roll. Those were some of my best days EVER!
What do you feel is the most enjoyable way to spend $50? Why?
I would spend $50 on some good books, because they would promise to give me countless hours of pleasure. Especially travel books or good novels set in exotic places.

Obsessive compulsive indeed! Mind if I ask how many times you have already washed your hands today and how many more times you have to? Ooooh, books…have to google some of those titles! Ah coconut oil, the days before sunblock became a chemical concoction of benzos and what not! PS,your bed is nice and colourful, is that back home home or Oman home?

Haha, you are so funny, Marco. Strangely enough, I’m compulsive when it comes to keeping things in order, but not about cleanliness. Haha! I haven’t cleaned my own house in over 20 years; have always hired a housekeeper, and I’m not that picky about every piece of dirt being wiped away. More, I’m about orderliness. Those books in the picture are all short story collections, so unless you like short stories, you may not like these. Thanks about my house in Oakton, Virginia. It is very colorful and I can’t wait to return to it next summer!! My Oman flat is quite nice too, but not as nice as my house in Virginia. Yes, coconut oil may be the death of me…. hope it doesn’t lead to skin cancer one day. 🙂
Marco said:
Coconut oil, skin cancer? Huh am I missing something? (Oh wait, all the sun exposure, right?) Some for cooking, some to sun tan with, some extra because you can, lol! Yeah cleaning is hard work, especially around books on the shelf when you have to take them down individually and dust them, makes it easier to keep them in sealed boxes, ha! Do you like short stories?
catbirdinoman said:
Dust my books? Hmm, don’t think I’ve ever done that. I probably have a lot of dust on them by now! Yes, I do like short stories, Marco. Do you?
Marco said:
You are meant to dust them but seriously, does anyone have time to do that – I don’t! Not sure, some short stories are too short and other could do better if they develop into a proper novel. I guess I like epic, the bigger the book the better – granted that it must be good. James Joyce’s Ulysses is an epic I won’t touch with a 10 foot pole – Robert Graves’I, Claudius – I read both both books in less than a week.

Housekeeper. We had one once in a house we lived in. I loved it. I enjoyed your photos of your precious items. Thanks so much for being a huge part of Share Your World.
catbirdinoman said:
Thank you, Cee, for creating such a fun challenge!

My books get arranged by topic then by size most often, with books by the same author grouped together. So there is a shelf with gardening books, a shelf with educational books, a shelf with quilting books, a shelf with computer books – if I’ve had a hobby, I’ve got books about it. I like organization, but I lose it too often. And in my day, we used baby oil. And hours in the sun. And now the wrinkles talk about it when they think I’m not listening.
catbirdinoman said:
Yes, my organization system for books sounds much like yours! We also used both baby oil and coconut oil. I can now see it in my wrinkles as well, Carol. Sadly we now have to pay for the lack of knowledge we had about skin cancer in those days!

loved the look of your blog…very appealing!

Thanks so much, swalia! I was inspired by your “12 things to do in the next 12 months.” You can see on my New Year’s Resolutions that I always do a similar thing!

That is a lovely sofa. Pretty bed covering, too.
I now live in Va. Beach.

Are these pictures from your house in Oman? I just love your bed – the cover and the pictures on the wall are absolutely stunning. Also your green couch.
If I had $50 I think I’d also buy some books. I have way too many.

No, Rosie, these pictures are from my house in Virginia. I spent years decorating that house, and I love it. I’m glad you love my apple green couch. It’s my favorite. 🙂
My house in Oman is quite nice too, but I haven’t wanted to put too much into it, knowing I wouldn’t stay here long.
I have way too many books too, but in my eyes, there are always room for more. They always hold such promise. And so much vicarious experience. 🙂
