Friday, March 1: The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Lost in the Details. This challenge is about getting lost in the details. Once you’ve found a subject you want to photograph, challenge yourself to work a little further into the scene. Tip: Get low. In photographing details in a landscape, lower the camera close to the ground to see its impact on the composition.
Here are some photos for the challenge:

a door at Nakhal Fort

the same door at Nakhal Fort

a frog in an algae-filled pool at Wadi Muyadin

pools and mosses at Wadi Muyadin

mushrooms on a tree at Swallowtail Falls near Deep Creek, Maryland

a fern & moss filled grotto at Birkat al Mouz in Oman

Love the doors!
Thanks so much, Jude!
Looking at the details really shows us more of the beauty of the thing we are looking at doesn’t it?
Yes, I think so, Colline. Photography really helps us to notice things we might not otherwise see. 🙂

Love your doors – can’t resist doors 🙂
Thanks, Marianne. I’m definitely a door person, especially since I came to Oman, where interesting doors are plentiful. 🙂
Dear catbird in Nizwa and throughout the world,
My name is Raluca Magereanu and I’m from Romania. I’ve been following your blog for quite sometime, but it was just today that I took the courage to write you a few words. This is meant as a thank you letter and an exercise of admiration.
So, I’d like to thank you for all the wonderful pictures and all the stories about some of the wonderful places in this world . I had great joy revisiting some places through your words as well as infinite crave to visit the others. Thank you for bringing me back the hope that I can still do interesting things, that I can still visit amazing places. Thank you for bringing beauty around me every time I open your blog. Thank you for precious piece of information on birds and animals and plants – they are very useful to improving my English. Thank you for showing me that life is more than work and home and home and work. Thank you for my every day smile.

I admire your courage, adventurous spirit and creativity. I admire your wanting of truly living life. You are an every day inspiration to me. I hope you go on writing your future travelling experiencies and I’m definitely looking forward to reading your novel.
I know Romania is not on your list, but if you ever think of visiting it I would be very happy to help.
Wishing you all nice experiences, memorable encounters, exciting stories, beautiful scenery and many many many fruitful travelling from now on!
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you to overcome the difficulties and health problems that you face now so that you can enjoy your remaning time in Oman and share with us your discoveries.

P.S. I like your scarves’ collection
Thank you so much, Raluca, for your kind and complimentary message. I’m so glad if I inspire you to enjoy your life. If I help put a smile on your face, that makes me really happy. I am so flattered that you follow my blog and you like what you see.
I think I should add Romania to my list. And if I can ever make it there, I hope I can meet you. 🙂
I definitely do enjoy my time in Oman, OUTSIDE of work. At work, as you know, is a different story. But, you’re right, I have less than 4 months remaining. I hope you’ll continue to visit me at my America blog when I return there in early August. So nice to meet you, Raluca!
Oh no, where do the frogs go when the Wadi’s dry up?
I don’t know, Gilly. We were here at a very hot and dry time of year, so maybe it never dries up. 🙂

It truly is all in the details, isn’t it? The photos are just great, as always. Somehow I never would have expected fungi, ferns and moss in Oman!
Me neither, Carol. I was very surprised to find them here. 🙂

Fab details Cathy. Love the maidenhair fern, I too associate ferns and moss with damp tropical climates!
Thanks so much, Madhu. This was in the gardens of Birkat al Mouz and oddly there was this little grotto where water was dripping out. This formed a whole little cluster of greenery around it. Strange, yes? 🙂
What great pix to this weeks’ challenge Cathy! Love the doors. And like Madhu I was interested to see the ferns, because I associate them with rainforests.
Thanks so much, Rosie. I love those doors too! And you and Madhu are right, I don’t think I’ve ever seen ferns in Oman other than these. 🙂
nice click with lot of details
