Sunday, October 21: Jakesprinter’s Sunday Post challenge for this week is City. He writes: A city is a large center of population organized as a community. The word city is derived from the Latin word civitas, which denotes a community that administers its own affairs. In ancient Greece such an independent community was called a city-state; it consisted of a chief town and its immediate neighborhood.
Here are some cities from different parts of the world.
You get around 🙂 I have visited these places only in dreams..and via the photos of others like you – thank you.
Yes bodhisattvaintraining, I have made it a priority to travel a lot in the last six years. Making up for lost time, I guess! I’m glad you enjoy coming along on my travels.
In a couple of years I may be able to start making up for lost time too 🙂
I hope so! You will love it!! I’m just sorry I waited so long in my life to start traveling abroad!
I’m chomping at the bit catbirdinoman…but have some responsibilities here that just won’t be rushed ha ha!
Yes, tell me all about it. I know that situation myself!
Excellent post my friend ,
Thanks for sharing your stunning photography there great city 🙂
Thank you Jake!

When we went to China we did not have a digital camera and I am so sad about that.Long ago as you can dedeuct, 1997 to be exact. Actually glad I saw it then it was still the oldish China before the Olympic Games.
I know what you mean about travels made before the digital age, melouisef. I also traveled to France twice, England and Germany and only have real photos, no digital ones. Maybe I could scan them all, but it would be so time-consuming because there are so many and I already put them in albums!! It’s too bad we can’t easily share those earlier photos. You are lucky you got to China in the good old days!
Beautiful colours in the last photograph.
Thank you Colline.
Oct 21, received. Now I cannot use the like button on your blog.
Oh dear, livvy, I wonder what’s going on!! I don’t have anyone else mentioning these problems….. Strange. 🙂
Great city photos – quite a variety of cities there. I especially like the Varanasi photo, I think because of the lighting.
Thank you Carol. Varanasi is one of the most interesting and chaotic places I’ve ever been. It’s stunning at sunrise!
What a fantastic selection of places you’ve visited, the Varanasi shot is brilliant!
Thank you Gilly!
Lovely selection, Cathy. Love that last pic. 🙂
Thanks, Sylvia!
great pics – full of colour and vibrance
Thank you! Glad you like them!
I love the locations and colors in your photos… Great choice.;-)
The photo from India is great. Reminds me that I need to plan a trip to India
Thanks Lori! And Varanasi is definitely a must-see place, although it will assault your senses!
Don’t you just love Hanoi? So even-handed you’ve been, Cathy – showing us glimpses of the ‘lesser known’ cities of the world. Good on ya’ 🙂
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed my “cities.” I loved Hanoi and wish I could have spent more time there! Think I will definitely have to go back!!
I’d like to, the few days I had wasn’t nearly enough time to do anything except scoot around on the back of a motor bike trying to see everything I could. In the end I opted to see the city by scouting art galleries for a painting to take home as a reminder of a marvellous trip.
I know what you mean Wanderlust! I didn’t have enough time in Hanoi myself. And I love getting a painting from a gallery to take home as a reminder of a place. I just bought two cool paintings in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for this same reason!
How exotic Cat 🙂
Thank you, Wanderlust! 🙂 ~ Cathy
Yes, that Varanasi shot is beautiful! Haven’t been there yet!!
I’m surprised you haven’t been to Varanasi. It seems like it would be right up your alley!
