Monday, June 11:  Ailsa of Where’s my backpack? has created a travel theme on oceans this week to mark World Oceans Day, which was on June 8.  The day highlights the urgent need to protect our marine environment.

Ailsa writes: June 8th is World Oceans Day. World Oceans Day has been unofficially celebrated on June 8th since 1992 when Canada proposed the idea at the Earth Summit in Rio, and was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. The official website is worldoceansday.org where you can keep up to date on news and events, or you can follow the hashtag #worldoceansday on Twitter.

Here are some shots of the “ocean” from Oman.  Well, it’s not really one of the “oceans” of the world, but it’s connected for sure: the Gulf of Oman is connected to the Arabian Sea which is connected to the Indian Ocean.  It’s all really one big body of water!!
