Sunday, March 17: Jake’s Sunday Post for this week is bay. A bay is defined as: A broad inlet of the sea where the land curves inward.
Here is the famous Halong Bay in Vietnam.

On the south coast of Crete, a beach town called Plakias sits within a small, glimmering bay.

And in Oman, we can find a number of small bays as well.

And finally, here is a harbor, which is sort of like a bay, but more so. A harbor is a place on the coast where vessels may find shelter, esp. one protected from rough water by piers, jetties, and other artificial structures. Here is the harbor at Mutrah in Oman.

You have gathered beautiful photos in this post, wow.
Thanks so much, Marion.
Oman has a Shangri-La,now I’m even more desperate to go!
Haha, Gilly, that’s just the name of the resort. In my eyes, it’s too hot in Oman to ever be Shangri-La.
No I know, Shangri La hotel group they’re great. Hot, hot, hot is good for me!
Well, I guess you’d like it here then. I think 42-45 is just way too miserable!! You should come!
I remember Plakias, Cath. Crete had some wonderful bays. Halong and Oman are just wishful thinking. Beautiful choices.
Thanks, Jo! I loved Crete all around. And though you might not make it to Oman, I really recommend Halong Bay if you can ever get to Asia.
Loved these Cathy!
Thanks so much, Dallas.
So pretty. I like the look of the boats in Vietnam.
Thanks, Colline! I love those junks too.
Ohhh my what a fascinating photo Bay’s you have there.:)
Thank you, Yen-Yen’s Passions!
Lovely shots. The boats in Halong Bay are now all painted white due to government legislation – I prefer them the way they were…
Thanks so much, Suzanne. I had another comment about this and am wondering why the government decreed the boats have to now be painted white. Do you know?
wow… great places and pics, but Halong Bay is my personal favourite…I wish I could see it as soon as possible! thanks for the share
Thanks so much talkerhuge! I hope you get there soon too.
Lovely collection, Cathy. I’m glad we got to Halong Bay before the color decree for the boats. Crete and Oman’s bays are indeed beautiful.
Thanks so much, Lynne! I didn’t hear about a color decree for the boats, but someone else made a comment that now the government requires all the boats to be painted WHITE?? Unbelievable! I can’t even imagine that. The deep reds of the junks were so beautiful. Why would they do that and when did this change come into effect? I was just there in January 2011. Soon after I remember a junk caught fire and all the people on board were killed. Does that have anything to do with this decree?
Gorgeous shots, Cathy – we loved our visit to Halong Bay, last year
Thanks, Marianne. When you went, were the junks all painted white, as some of my fellow bloggers mention in the comments?
No – we went in February 2012 and ours was brown wood colour. I don’t believe I saw any white ones.
That’s good! I’m not sure about the comments I received then. ??
Beautiful places , Thanks for sharing this post
Thanks, Jake.
SERIOUSLY!!!!!
Are you looking to adopt a 34 year old with 2 kids?
It’s SO nice that you take images and share them with us! I can’t wait to travel !
LOL, Jasmine. Sure I’d be happy to adopt you. I think my own daughter, who is turning 29 soon and has no kids, would like me to adopt her!! I wish I had lots of money and time to take my own kids gallivanting around the world with me. I hope you’re able to travel soon, but there will be time when your kids get older. Just enjoy the anticipation. You’ll do it for sure, if you really want to.
AWH your SO SWEET!
Such gorgeous photos! You have been to some amazing places.
Thanks so much, Lynn. Yes, I’ve been really lucky in my travels in the last 3 years. But now I am just ready to go home.
beautiful Bays Cathy. Halong Bay has to be my hands down favourite
Thanks, Madhu! Yes, I adored Halong Bay. I bet it’s really wonderful in the warmer months. I was freezing when I was there in January, 2011!!
Perfect!
Thank you so much!
Such lovely pics for Jake’s theme, Cathy. I especially love the second one with the bright red sails.
Thanks, Sylvia. I love those junks in Halong Bay. I had such dreary weather while in Vietnam; now when I look back on my pictures, I’m so disappointed in all the overcast skies. But it was still lovely to be there.
Halong Bay – maybe the most famous bay – something romantic – and, I ask you, because you’ve often been in sand deserts: isn’t it wonderful to be near the water? Tomorrow, I’ll write about the “world water day 2013″ = March 22…
Yes, I love being near the water, Frizz. I’ll check out your post about World Water Day 2013!
