Friday, December 7: Today’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Changing Seasons. Cheri Lucas of WordPress writes: It’s the first week of December, and where I live, on the west coast of the US, the weather has cooled, the trees are bare, and the sky seems much more volatile and moody. Here, we’re saying goodbye to fall and hello to winter. In other parts of the world, it’s snowing. And for our neighbors down south, it’s almost summer.
I live in Oman, and here there is really only one season: HOT. Omanis insist that it is now winter, but in my eyes, nothing here approaches winter. It looks the same now as it looks all year round: brown with a 90% chance of brown. It is still hot during the day, and the evenings and mornings are just a little cooler. So, for this challenge, I will travel back to South Korea to find a change of season.
These photos are from a weekend trip to Gongju & Buyeo, Korea, where a light snow had just fallen.
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me on the only change of seasons I’ve experienced in the last 1 1/2 years.

Terrific, especially the first
Thanks, Meredith!
Wonderful! The second one surprised me… and made me laugh.
Thanks Robin! Glad you were surprised by that one!
Brrrrrr.
Yes, Allan, Korea is one of the coldest places I’ve ever been. Brrrr is right!
Bundle up & stay warm.
Thanks, Allan, except that I’m now living in Oman where it is perpetually hot, so I no longer need to bundle up! I wish I did though because I prefer cold weather!
I agree about the cold weather: you can always put on more clothes to get comfortable. When you are hot and almost naked, that’s it, start looking for water (preferably running water).
You are so right, Allan. I hate the eat because there’s no escape except sitting indoors in air conditioning, or floating about in a pool.
Great photos! When I lived in Tanzania, some people complained about missing the seasons. Not me; I’m quite happy with perpetual summer
I know, Julie, some people love the heat here in Oman too, and never seem to mind 45-50 degrees. I hate it! Give me the change in seasons any time, especially the colder/cooler ones. Summer is my least favorite season.

What lovely photos – especially the first one!
Stunning
Thanks so much, Marianne! I so miss winter!! (Can you believe it?)
Maybe it’s not so much the winters per se, as much as any kind of change in the weather that you miss. Though it IS nice to wear cardigans and boots sometimes
I love bundling up in sweaters and boots! Yes, the change is what I like, though I do prefer cold to hot. It’s just so boring to me living in the same kind of environment, and one I don’t particularly enjoy, all year round!
Cathy your photo of the sailboat is beautiful, I love it!
Thanks so much, Gilly!

Great photos for the challenge, Cathy. That second one is quite scary.
Just trying to make sure you’re not sleeping!
Lovely photos for the challenge. Thank you, Cathy!
Thank you for visiting, and for your kind comment, Amy!

“Brown with a 90% chance of brown” – yes, that is what I remember about Oman. It was quite spectacular and I couldn’t get over the mountains. They just go on and on. We were there in January 2010 and the weather was superb. The temperature was just right for travelling.
January is absolutely the best time to be in Oman. Where did you go when you were here?
We visited a lot of places in the two weeks we were in Oman. My brother and his wife were living there at the time, while he worked for PDO. We spent several days in Muscat with them, and also did day trips to Jebel Sham and the forts at Rustaq and Nakhl. We did a five day tour with Sun and Sand tours. You can read about it here. As you can see from my early posts I have learned a lot about using photos effectively since then.

Jebel Shams is great and I love Nakhal Fort! I still haven’t made it to Rustaq fort, but I plan to do so soon. I’ll check into your posts about Oman! Thanks for sharing. I’m glad to know you enjoyed your trip so much.
It was really great to read about your travels in Oman! Thanks for inviting me.

Really looks beautiful with the ground covered in snow.
Thanks, Colline! I wish I had that snow here in Oman!

I really like the first one photo and the last one. The snow in the mouth of the second picture is fitting. Does Oman ever have a wet season or is it dry year round?
Thanks Lynne! Oman doesn’t really have a wet “season” but just maybe a day here and there of some rain. Usually in the fall and winter….
